London: 10 November 2009
The main Odeon on the Square is the venue for the European premiere of this Michael Caine urban revenge Brit flick. Filmmakers and dozens of local celebs came along on this chilly autumn night to launch the film. Intermittent rain pervaded the day but stopped just as things got going about six fifteen after waiting four hours. It was a traditional red carpet and a lot of it. Just a few more light next time guys please. Sir Michael arrived early to make sure all the media could speak to him. He signed the fanline at the South of the Square and just made it to south of me before being hauled back to media duties. The rain meant the crowd was a lot thinner than usual as the entrances to the pens were closed up just after five. The organiser had some quick thinking to do to reconfigure fan pens to get the place looking full. Harry Potter star David Bradley was a hit with fans, coming to the barrier when called. There were plenty of subjects for the packed paps pen to my left and it was hard to keep up with the celebs being snapped. A surprise arrival was new WBA Heavyweight World Champion boxer David Haye who is hugely popular with fans (Part 2). He bonded instantly with boxing fan Sir Michael.
